Jodhpur, Rajasthan – Umaid Bhawan Palace

At a Glance

One of our favourite hotels in India, perched high above the desert city of Jodhpur, set in 26 acres of lush manicured gardens, stands the imposing Umaid Bhawan Palace an iconic structure built for Maharaja Umaid Singh of Jodhpur.

Constructed between 1928 and 1943 the interior offers a lush surrounding in the Art Deco style with gilt furniture and elegant artwork, complemented by the exotic murals of the self-exiled Polish artist Stefan Norblin.

The hotel section of the Palace is now run by Taj Hotels, featuring 64 luxurious rooms and suites. Amongst the experiences on offer here are two pools one inside and one out in the gardens, Yoga facilities and Spa.

Stroll through the private museum, test your skills on the marble squash courts or enjoy a game of billiards in the paneled recreation room.
