Kipling Camp is so much more than just accommodation; this is where the late Mark Shand’ Elephant Tara now lives. I have been lucky enough to meet her and give her a wash in the local watering-hole, it was the highlight of my trip

ACCOMMODATION
There 11 deluxe rooms (four of which have double beds), and four standard rooms with twin beds. Comfortable cottages with verandahs offering views of the surrounding forest and camp.

The Private Cottages, have a bedroom, sitting room, two bathrooms and a patio overlooking the waterhole, is particularly popular with guests.

When its cold outside in the winter, there are heaters and hot water bottles provided and not forgetting air-conditioners in the summer months.

Mark Shand
Mark Shand was a British travel writer and conservationist, the brother of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, whos book Travels on my Elephant tells the story of one man’s adventures with an elephant. There is not a better way to see India than on the back of an elephant, which is exactly what Mark Shand discovered as he set out on a 1000 kilometre journey on Tara, a 30-year old female elephant. Their destination was the Sonepur Mela, the world’s oldest elephant market. Read more about the late Mark Shand’s charity Elephant Family
