Paatlidun (pat-LEE-doon) meaning a narrow valley. The original name of the geographical area now identified as Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand, India. Far above the racket of Ramnagar, hidden high in the Shivaliks, is this narrow valley- a slice of Paradise- revived in its original name, by Paatlidun Safari Lodge.
After wading through streams and clawing up a mountain trail at a thrilling 45-degree incline, the narrow path that leads here miraculously unfurls into this beautiful valley, covered in towering Sal forests, abundant wildlife and ringed by river Kosi. And in this vast expanse of 13 acres, luxuriously spaced out are 12 en-suite cottages that indulge your every whim.
You can relax in your private plunge pool under a star-studded sky or quietly enjoy a sundowner on the deck of the restaurant. All the while you have birds and butterflies for company, crickets chirping in the bushes and the steamy grasslands a stone’s throw away- true luxury in the heart of the wild!
The sweet smell of summer grass that invades your nostrils; the call of the hornbill that wakes you up in the morning; the heat of the day that suddenly dips to a cool breeze and a pair of yellow eyes that gleam in the glare of a flashlight. When the whiff of adventure hovers in mid-air, and you feel a shiver of spine-tingling excitement, you know you’ve arrived in Paatlidun.
All buildings are built in the traditional Kumaoni style- stone masonry and mud plaster on the walls, and the trademark black slate roof- and locally sourced, indigenous materials have been used for construction.
