About the Festival
The Ganga Festival is dedicated to the city's very important goddess Ganga (Ganges) and involves a number of different rituals, including worshiping the great river itself, which has brought the state of Uttar Pradesh much prosperity over the years.

Varanasi or Benares is known to be the oldest inhabited city in the world. It is also considered the cradle to several traditions and culture legacies. It also happens to be one of the most religious cities of the country. Whether you take a boat ride over the holy Ganges or just aimlessly walk in the by lanes of the city, whether you spontaneously stop at a roadside stall to taste the traditional snacks or sit back  for an impromptu music session at one of the old music families or gharanas as they are called. Whether the morning sun or the sunset, this city promises to offer an experience like nowhere.

The Varanasi Ganga Festival is one such auspicious occasion, which attracts people from all over the country, and also tourists who visit this place for this festival for the sheer magnificence of the event and the visual delight that it is. It is celebrated in the month of November and is a traditional time to worship the River Ganges for its glorious existence since ancient times. People throng the river banks to offer the sacred puja with devotion and reverence. The most remarkable spectacle happens to be the Evening Aarti when after the chants and prayers, the devotees send lit up clay lamps on a lotus leaf afloat on the Holy Waters.

It looks fabulous and magical to hear the loud cymbals, chants, golden hued waters and the floating diyas as if the stars have descended on the Ganges!!
