Toy Train's & Hill Stations

DELHI (2) - TRAIN (1) - TOY TRAIN/SHIMLA (3) - KOLKATA (1) - TRAIN (1) -TOY TRAIN / DARJEELING - (2) - GLENBURN (3) - DELHI (1) = 14 nights

Covering two regions of the Himalayan Foothills in both North and East India. Experience and enjoy the two Toy Trains that ply these old British Raj hill stations. Travel back in time and appreciate the efforts that went into building these amazing little tracks.

Overview

Your first toy train experience takes you up to the ‘summer capital' of British India sprawling along a crescent-shaped ridge at an altitude of over 2100m in southern Himachal Pradesh. This was the most important hill station in India before Independence. The famous main street, The Mall, still runs along the crest of the ridge and is lined with stately English-looking houses. Christ Church, Gorton Castle and the fortress-like former Viceroyal Lodge reinforce the English flavour.

Your next destination is Kolkata (Calcutta) which served as the capital of India during the British Raj until 1911. People of Calcutta are very passionate about arts and sports, especially football and cricket. It is also known as the city of joy, where people are always full of enthusiasm and excitement.

From here your overnight train will take you from Kolkata to New Jalpaiguri where you will join the toy train up to Darjeeling. The Darjeeling Himalayan railway is a marvel of what could be said in a non-engineering way. It uses neither rack mechanism nor cable as other mountain railways do, but moves only on adhesion. It was the genius and vision of Franklin Prestage, which conceived of such a mechanism and executed it to perfection.
