Sikkim and Darjeeling

DELHI (1) - KURSEONG (2) - DARJEELING (2) - PELLING (2) - KEWZING (2) - GANGTOK (2) - KALIMPONG (2) - DELHI (1) = 14 nights

This happens to be one of the most near perfect tours if you are a pure rambler at heart. It takes you to some of the most heavenly landscapes on the eastern side of this subcontinent.

Overview

Kolkata is the most strategic point to kick-start a tour in the east.  A day at the unique city kind of gears you up for the eventful times ahead.  Darjeeling is the next stop which offers the classic views of the Mt. Everest at the famous Tiger Hill.  It will demand an early wake up though.  But I guess the trouble is worth it, because the sunrise on the Tiger Hill is simply amazing! Several important Gompas are also worth a visit. The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is a great place to visit for firsthand experience on this popular activity. After a fabulous start in the hills its time to touch base the next spot and that is the ethereal Pelling.

The natural beauty is beyond words and any possible description. Great views of the lofty Kachenjunga, picturesque villages, unique walking trails await you. Further ahead, is Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, also has the famous Rumtek Monastery apart from the enchanting natural wealth of scenic points and stunning views of the lofty peaks. The soul nourishing experience continues with Kalimpong, which means playground on the ridge. This place looks as if, was once a painting which has turned real with a magic wand. The riot of colours in the golden oak forests, the pristine waters hopping in a brook, the mystical shades in the sky changing with the dawn and dusk and the innocently gleaming eyes of the little monks; what else can it be but magic!!

The tour also gives you a little surprise tucked away in the hills. Samthar, that offers great treks, flora and fauna and of course the warm hospitality of the Lepcha community.

So much and more is wrapped in the folds of these lofty peaks and inviting valleys!!
