Welcome aboard The Palace on Wheels on its splendid and enchanting royal journey through the bygone era of the erstwhile Maharajas.

Overview

Though times have changed and the winds have shifted, the Palace on Wheels cruises along in royal style, the kind only the Maharajas of yesteryears could have perpetuated and enjoyed. 

The name itself expresses quiet a lot. Palace on Wheels happens to be one of the most successful and preferred of the luxury trains that India showcases. It is an epitome of luxury, comfort and grandeur all in one. It is every traveller’s dream come true! Every Wednesday the royal extravaganza takes place at Delhi from where the journey begins. This tour basically focuses on the charm that this train holds - A holiday of the choicest destinations and that to exactly like a Maharaja.

The attendants are absolutely steadfast in their service and they pamper you throughout the tour. The journey kick starts at New Delhi and proceeds to Jaipur; the capital of Rajasthan. It has an action packed day to offer with lots of sightseeing possibilities. After the forts and the palaces at Jaipur, it is time for some adventure at the Ranthambhore National Park for some tiger spotting! Just keep your fingers crossed as the cat is known for being pretty elusive!!From here you prepare to enter one of the most historically rich pages at Chittaurgarh which is filled with the stories of chivalry and valour. In the meanwhile the royal treatment in the train continues in full swing.

Great food and great ambience - one of the essentials of a good holiday! The train then takes you to Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, into the land of the valiant Rathores. With a sweet twist in the mood, after all the sightseeing you get to indulge and engage your binoculars at Bharatpur bird Sanctuary!

Outlined Itinerary

Day 01 - Delhi
Arrive Delhi, meet and transfer to your hotel. Later proceed for orientation tour of Old and New Delhi. Visit Qutub Minar – the 239ft sandstone tower. Drive past the India Gate; Parliament House [exterior] and the President’s Palace. Visit Raj Ghat where Mahatma Gandhi – The Father of Nation was cremated; Drive past the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk
Day 02 - Delhi
After breakfast, morning is at leisure; Later in time you will be transferred to Safdarjung Railway Station to begin the epic journey, where on arrival at complete your registration and check in formalities as you enjoy a welcome drink. The Palace on Wheels departs Delhi for Jaipur. FULL BOARD
Day 03 - Jaipur
Breakfast on board. Morning excursion to Amber Fort. Make your ascent to the palace fortress on the gaily caparisoned elephant back. Tour the chambers and hallways of the palace which are famous for the excellence of their design and decoration. Afternoon tour of Jaipur known as "The Pink City of Rajasthan" Visit the unique Jantar Mantar Observatory, which was built in the 1700's, yet even today still looks futuristic or almost surrealistic; the City Palace and its Museum, the Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds. Return to train for tea and freshening up. Enjoy a drive of Jaipur by night followed by dinner at a Palace Hotel. Return to Palace on Wheels. Train departs for Sawai Madhopur. FULL BOARD
Day 04 - Ranthambore NP
Arrive Sawai Madhopur. Game viewing in the sanctuary by canter. Ranthambore Wildlife Sanctuary extends over an area of 392 sq kms of thick forests. The place abounds in scenic beauty, requisite refuge for both the carnivora and herbivora. The numerous valleys and flat hill tops form picturesque surroundings of the 13th century historical Ranthambore Fort. The Tiger and Leopard are the main predators found in this reserve. Breakfast is onboard. Palace on Wheels departs for Chittaurgarh. Lunch on board. Later visit Chittaurgarh. There is no place in Rajasthan with a history more romantic than that of Chittaurgarh, the centre of Rajput resistance against Mughal rule. Evening Tea with Sound and Light show at the Fort. Dinner at a hotel. FULL BOARD
Day 05 - Udaipur
Arrive Udaipur. Breakfast onboard. Morning, enjoy sightseeing tour of Udaipur, stopping first at City Palace. Here you will marvel at rooms with mirrored walls and ivory doors, colored glass windows and inlaid marble balconies; and the Peacock Courtyard. Also visit the lovely Sahelion-ki-Bari; Jagdish Temple; and the local folk museum. Lunch at a hotel. Enjoy boat ride on Lake Pichola before returning on Palace on Wheels. Evening tea on board. Palace on Wheels departs for Jaisalmer. Dinner on board. FULL BOARD
Day 06 - Jaislamer
Arrive Jaisalmer. Breakfast on board Morning sightseeing tour of Jaisalmer. It is in the heart of the Great Indian Desert. Its temple, fort and palaces are all built of yellow stone. The city is a mass of intricately carved buildings, facades and elaborate balconies. See the Patwon-Ki-Havelies, Salim-Singh-Ki-Haveli and Gadi Sagar Tank. Afternoon visit the Sand Dunes and a camel ride to view the sunset, as the sky is set on fire and Rajasthani folk musicians play haunting tunes. Enjoy Dinner with Cultural programme. Palace on Wheels departs for Jodhpur. FULL BOARD
Day 07 - Jodhpur
Arrive Jaisalmer. Breakfast on board Morning sightseeing tour of Jaisalmer. It is in the heart of the Great Indian Desert. Its temple, fort and palaces are all built of yellow stone. The city is a mass of intricately carved buildings, facades and elaborate balconies. See the Patwon-Ki-Havelies, Salim-Singh-Ki-Haveli and Gadi Sagar Tank. Day 08 - Agra
Arrive Bharatpur. Visit to National Bird Sanctuary. Bharatpur (Ghana) once the former hunting preserve of the royal family of Bharatpur, the sanctuary is home to storks and nearly every other kind of bird imaginable. You'll see more than 250 different species nesting on the tops of trees and along the roadside, as well as snakes, lizards, exotic fish and monkeys. Breakfast at a hotel. Palace on Wheels departs for Agra. Enjoy your lunch at a hotel. Afternoon sightseeing tour of Agra city visiting the most perfect architectural monument in the world-Taj Mahal Taj Mahal is the mausoleum of Empress Mumtaz Mahal, the beloved spouse of Shah Jahan, who died in 1630. The Taj is remarkable for its perfect proportion and rich pietra dura, with minute details executed with great skill. The building, often styled "a dream in marble" is said to have taken at least 22 years (1631-1653) to build. Enjoy sound & light show. Dinner at a hotel. Palace on Wheels departs for Delhi. Day 09 - Delhi
Early this morning the train pulls into Delhi. Following breakfast on board you will disembark at Safdarjung Railway Station. Bid farewell to the Palace on Wheels journey comes to an end. The royal journey is over, but the memory of which, will live on forever! You will be transferred to Delhi International airport to connect with your homebound or onwards flight... or travel to your next destination if you would like to add to this tour.
