The toy train that runs in the Blue Mountains is a hundred year old heritage of the Indian Railways. Your journey with this historical locomotive as the centre point actually begins at Mumbai, where you get a day to relax and catch a few glimpses of this cream city of India.

Overview

From Mumbai you will fly to Coimbatore, which is also known as the textile hub of this state. It has ancient origins. From here, an hours drive takes you to Mettapalayam the start of the toy trains ride up the mountains to Ooty.

The entire journey gives you charming views of the beautiful Hills, which are the Blue Mountains probably, have got this name from the blue mist of clouds that always seem to curtain them or from the kurunji flowers that only bloom once in twelve years all over these hills that lend a bluish hue to them!! Once you reach Ooty, there is a lot of scope for enjoying the natural beauty of this hill station. There are botanical gardens, lake, and the highest peak of the Nilgiri Hills, called Doddabatta Peak.

The southern part of India carries a classical touch to the environment be it the monuments, temples or even the city itself. So while you proceed further to the city of Mysore you would agree to this notion very easily. Mysore is one of the most ancient cities of India. It is a city full of palaces, art galleries, parks, temples, art schools promoting the old Ganjifa art and so much more.

Outlined Itinerary

Day 01 - Mumbai
Arrive Mumbai, meet and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is then at leisure to relax after your flight. Extra sightseeing can be arranged if you would like to explore this afternoon.
Day 02 - Mettupalayam
Breakfast is at the Hotel. Today at an appropriate time, you will be met and transferred to Mumbai airport to board your flight for Coimbatore 0810-1010. Arrive Coimbatore and drive to Mettupalayam (1 Hr). Arrive and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 03 - Ooty
Early this morning you will be be transferred to Mettupalayam Railway Station to board the Toy Train for its upwards journey to Ooty 0710-1200. Arrive Ooty and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is then at leisure to relax or explore on your own.
Day 04 - Ooty
After breakfast you will take a private guided tour of Ooty, visit the Botanical Gardens established in 1848. There are over 1000 varieties of plants, shrubs and trees among beautiful lawns and glass houses. There is also a 200 million year old fossilized tree trunk. See the Ooty Lake, where boating is a popular pastime, and the Doddabatta Peak which at 2623 m is the highest in the Nilgiri hills. Evening is at leisure.
Day 05 - Mysore
After breakfast you will drive to Mysore (03 hrs). Arrive Mysore and rest of the day will at leisure.
Day 06 - Mysore
After breakfast you will take a private guided tour of Mysore, visiting the Maharaja’s Palace built in 1911-12. The palace harmoniously synthesizes the Hindu and the Saracenic styles of architecture with archways, domes, turrets, colonnades and sculptures, which are truly magnificent. Evening is at leisure.
Day 07 - Bangalore
After breakfast you will drive to Bangalore (03 hrs). Arrive Bangalore and transfer to your hotel. Later in the afternoon you will take a private guided tour of Bangalore, visiting Lal Bagh which has a variety of old trees, fountains, lotus pools, terraces and an assortment of tropical and sub-tropical herbs. Also, see the Peninsular Gneissic Complex that is home to a 2500-2600 year old rock. You will also visit the brilliantly painted and carved summer palace of Tipu Sultan, the Bull Temple with its monolithic bull statue and drive past the government buildings.
Day 08 - Bangalore
Breakfast is at the Hotel. Today at an appropriate time, you will be met and transferred to Bangalore International airport to connect with your homebound or onwards flight... or travel to your next destination if you would like to add to this tour.
