Kalka to Shimla Toy Train

The journeys that are closer to nature never turn a traveller tired or weary, somehow the natural surroundings and the purity and peace infuses constant energy within. Same is the case with this wonderfully scenic toy train journey from Kalka to Shimla.

Overview

It begins in the national capital of Delhi, where you get to relax for a day. You can also spend few hours in sightseeing. There are a lot of monuments of the British Raj, the Mughal and the pre Mughal era too! The next destination is Kalka where you arrive by an overnight train. You will be comfortably assisted to board the toy train up till Shimla. No amount of words can actually describe the charm and wonder that this ride grants. It is a pure case of see to believe.

The 100 year old Heritage Train covers 96kms crossing 103 tunnels and more than 800 gothic styled bridges and viaducts. The whole path is flanked with cedar and pine trees on both sides. The entire route is also strewn with pomegranate and pear orchards. As the cool breeze sweeps your face, and views get more and more charming the mountains and the clouds create dramatic glimpses that can leave any traveller enamoured!!

The joyride ends at Shimla. The next couple of days are well spent revelling the natural beauty, trekking, stroll on the Mall Road, or even visiting the Vice regal  Lodge or the famous Jakhu Temple crowded with countless monkeys!! The little quaint Mashobra is a pretty place to discover too.

It is an ideal place for soft  treks ,walks or even endless hours gazing at the mountain peaks  or even read your favourite author sitting under any of the oak or pine canopies!!

Outlined Itinerary

Day 01 - Delhi
Arrive Delhi, meet and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day is at leisure to relax after your flight. We can arrange this afternoon for you to visit the National Rail Museum, fascinating to see some of the old toy trains of India.
Day 02 - Delhi
After breakfast, you will proceed for orientation tour of Old and New Delhi. Visit Qutub Minar – the 239ft sandstone tower. Drive past the India Gate; Parliament House [exterior] and the President’s Palace. Visit Raj Ghat where Mahatma Gandhi – The Father of Nation was cremated and drive past the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk. Later in the evening, you will board your overnight train to Kalka 2115-0430+1.
Day 03 - Shimla (Simla)
Upon arrival at 0430 hrs, you will be assisted to board the Toy Train upto Shimla 0530-1015. Shimla is often referred to as the "Queen of Hills," a term coined by the British. Located in the north-west Himalayas, at an average altitude of 2,205 metres (7,234 ft), the city of Shimla is draped in forests of pine, rhododendron, and oak, experiences pleasant summers and cold, snowy winters. Evening is free to relax and explore on own.
Day 04 - Shimla (Simla)
After breakfast, you will enjoy a private guided tour visiting Viceregal Lodge and Hindu Temple. Evening is at leisure to take a stroll in the Mall road.
Day 05 - Mashobra
After breakfast, you will drive to Mashobra (01hr). Rest of the day is free to relax and explore on your own.
Day 06 - Mashobra
After breakfast, you will be free to relax at your hotel and take part in the many activities available or explore the area on own.
Day 07 - Delhi
This morning you will be transferred to Shimla airport for your flight back to Delhi 1120-1225. Meet and transfer to your hotel, the rest of the day is then at leisure.
Day 08 - Delhi
Breakfast is at the Hotel. Today at an appropriate time, you will be met and transferred to Delhi International airport to connect with your homebound or onwards flight... or travel to your next destination if you would like to add to this tour.
