India's Great Cities

MUMBAI (3) - KOLKATA (3) - DELHI (3) = 9 nights

A different way of discovering and exploring the three most happening metropolis of India.

Overview

The journey of course begins at New Delhi which all know is the capital of this wonderful country. It is really amazing how in such a fuelled up and fast track scenario, a city as modern as Delhi successfully retains and sustains the old world charm. The monuments are as diverse as the modern, medieval and also the ancient. One gets to visit the lofty Qutab Minar, the Red Fort and also the dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin on one hand and the India Gate and the President’s Palace on the other. Interestingly there is no such thing as a national staple food or a standard platter of India because that sounds a little amusing to anyone here; the reason being, an exhaustive variety of cuisine!!The by lanes of Old Delhi are sacred to the foodie!

The next destination is the city of Kolkata, a beautiful culture hub on the banks of the river Hoogly. Kolkata happens to be one of the most culturally and historically rich cities of this country. There are monuments and buildings like the Writer’s Building, Victoria Memorial and so many more that are wonderful impressions left behind by the British Raj. People here are known to be sentimental, cordial, traditional and religious. They are also amazingly passionate about sports right from an international football match to a local carom or chess dual played under a humble street light!! The food is delightful and the evenings are worth remembering. The city if visited during the Durga Puja festival looks heavenly.

Towards the end the tour takes a last turn towards another metropolis which is also known as the commercial and cultural city of India. Mumbai actually is a conglomerate of seven islands that were inhabited by the fishermen community. It was ruled by the rulers of Gujarat, later by the Dutch and subsequently fell into the hands of the British. It is but obvious that being a sea shore city it has pleasant weather with some of the most overwhelming variety of religious and historical places to visit. Gateway of India, Chowpati Beach, the J.JSchool of Art, Mahalakshmi Temple and several other such places are worth a visit.  An action packed and a promising holiday Idea!
