Highlights of Gujarat

MUMBAI (1) - AHMADABAD (2) - DASADA (2) - BHUJ (2) - GONDAL (1) - SASANGIR NP (2) - DIU ISLAND (2) - BHAVNAGAR (2) - MUMBAI (1) = 15 nights

Gujarat is an equally colourful and vibrant state like Rajasthan. The people here are very hospitable and are known for their enterprising and resourceful nature.

Overview

Though the journey kick-starts at Mumbai, you get the first glimpse of Gujarat at Ahmedabad, situated at the famous river Sabarmati. Named after Sultan Ahmed Shah, was once also called the Manchester of India for the business potential.

The main attraction is any day the Gandhi Ashram, the home of Mahatma Gandhi. The following two days take you to Dasada, on the edge of the arid Rann of Kutch. This is a great getaway offering relaxation in eco friendly resorts and ethnic huts. You are also introduced to the royal palaces and its grandeur at Bhuj and more at Gondal, very much dipped in traditions and heritage.

After a variety of adventure, history and culture it is time for the naturalist to take you forward from here. Sasangir, the only home to the Asiatic lions is waiting! Dawn and dusk is the right time to spot this illusive beast. Here and in the nearby Nalsarover Lake one can spot a variety of birds, gazelle, antelopes etc. Diu is a beautiful extension of the great Kathiawad zone and Bhavnagar are two great destinations to get a glimpse of royal Gujarat again. Dont forget to visit the Piram turtle breeding farms and the frescoes of Bhavnagar.

Highlights though, the tour is a unique chance to feel yet another cultural tapestry in the western part of India.
