Jodhpur RIFF festival; an inspiring spectacle of Rajasthani folk music and dance, this festival recalls the historic origins of the sentiments and character of Rajasthan. Jodhpur is the ideal venue for observing the festivities with the imposing Meherangarh Fort representing the ingenuity, might and valour of the Rajputs.

Overview

The hot and the hostile sands of the great Thar Desert are duly toned down and tapered with soulful notes of music and the hypnotic rhythms of dances. The Jodhpur Festival or the International Folk Festival organised by the Mehrangarh Trust every year is one such colourful event to look forward to. It coincides with the full moon of the lunar calendar called the Sharad Poornima.

The Mehrangarh Fort rated as the finest fortress of Asia lives up to the distinction while welcoming and treating the music and dance enthusiasts too for few of the best performing artists of Rajasthan! Five days in the month of October, come alive and listfully resonate with the innovative sounds of the Morchang, Bhapang, Khurtal, Algoza, Khamaicha, and the auspicious rumbling of the kettle drums called the Nagara. It is a rare opportunity for the music lovers to appreciate and even learn how to play these traditional instruments in the day workshops. It is an awesome spectacle to watch the native Langas or Manganiyar or even the Gujjars play there instruments echoing through the magnificent arches and imposing walls and towers of the illumined and decorated fortress.

The whole fort area and the surroundings come alive with the full throated and mesmerising voices of the folk musicians. Some of the other attractions include jewellery designing, lacquering, block printing and even instrument designing and even puppetry. It is a wonderful way to revive, preserve and patronise the music and dance heritage of the desert world of Rajasthan!!

Even while you proceed to Udaipur after this you are sure to feel the rhythm still vibrating deep within.

Outlined Itinerary

Day 01 - Delhi
Arrive Delhi, meet and transfer to your hotel. Later proceed for orientation tour of Old and New Delhi. Visit Qutub Minar – the 239ft sandstone tower. Drive past the India Gate; Parliament House [exterior] and the President’s Palace. Visit Raj Ghat where Mahatma Gandhi – The Father of Nation was cremated; drive past the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk.
Day 02 - Jodhpur

Day 06 - Jodhpur
Breakfast is at the Hotel. Rest of the day enjoy the RIFF Festival.
Day 07 - Udaipur
After breakfast you will drive to Udaipur (6 hrs). Sightseeing en route of Kumbalgarh Fort and Ranakpur Jain Temple. Arrive Udaipur late afternoon then the rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 08 - Udaipur
After breakfast you will take a private guided tour of Udaipur. Visiting sites like City Palace – Built in 1725, the grand City Palace is actually a conglomerate of eleven palaces overlooking the sprawling Lake Pichola. Later visit Jagdish Temple and Sahelion Ki Badi. Later in the evening enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Pichola.
Day 09 - Udaipur
Breakfast is at the Hotel. Rest of the day is at leisure.
Day 10 - Mumbai
Breakfast is at the Hotel. Today at an appropriate time, you will be met and transferred to Udaipur airport to board your flight for Mumbai 0800-0945. Arrive Mumbai and transfer to Mumbai International airport to connect with your homebound or onwards flight... or travel to your next destination if you would like to add to this tour.
