Diwali which is also known as Deepavali means ‘rows of lights’ is one of the most important festivals of India. Visiting this place at this time of the year would bring you closer to the spirit of diversity of this country.

Overview

Diwali is celebrated according to the lunar calendar dates and usually falls in the month of Oct or Nov. The whole country, all the states, each and every street comes alive with myriad decorations. There is not a grain of darkness allowed to be anywhere; it simply is illuminated and full of lights. People exchange gifts with families and friends alike.

Traditionally, Diwali preparations begin almost fifteen days ahead of the festival. It is a pure family affair with the ladies of the house cleaning up the whole house, ready to be decorated with lanterns and preparing traditional sweets. It is a five day festival and all the five days are symbolic and different gods and goddesses are worshipped and evoked for their blessings. Apart from the Hindus, this festival is also celebrated by the Jain community, actually ushering the New Year for them. Children make merry in colourful new clothes, sweets and crackers! It is a time when everybody prays to dispel darkness and strengthens the family ties.

It is a great time to be here in the busy streets, with shops overflowing with the orange, pink and yellow wall hangings, lanterns, clay lamps, sugar toys, fruits, candles, fancy lights, marigold garlands and what not!! One can even venture into visiting one of the temples to see the spiritual fervour. It is a beautiful in the pink winters when the skies seem to be showering lights and colour into everybody’s lives.

Outlined Itinerary

Day 01 - Delhi
Arrive Delhi, meet and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day is at leisure to relax after your flight.
Day 02 - Udaipur
Breakfast is at the Hotel. Today at an appropriate time, you will be met and transferred to Delhi airport to connect with your flight to Udaipur 1215-1350. Arrive Udaipur and transfer to your hotel.
Day 03 - Udaipur
After breakfast, you will take a private guided tour of Udaipur. Visiting sites like City Palace – Built in 1725, the grand City Palace is actually a conglomerate of eleven palaces overlooking the sprawling Lake Pichola. Later visit Jagdish Temple and Sahelion Ki Badi. In the evening enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Pichola. This evening witness the fireworks from you hotel overlooking Lake Pichola.
Day 04 - Udaipur
After breakfast day is at leisure to relax and explore the city on your own.
Day 05 - Mumbai
Breakfast is at the Hotel. Today at an appropriate time, you will be met and transferred to Udaipur airport to connect with your flight for Mumbai 0800-0945 on arrival connect with your homebound or onwards flight...or travel to your next destination if you would like to add to this tour.
