Amanbagh MI Evaluation - Diamond

Situated in the foothills of the Aravalli Hills and built, haveli-style, using soft sandstone and pale pink marble, Amanbagh is a regal garden estate in the starkly beautiful wilds of Rajasthan.

Circled by walls which enclose a verdant oasis watered by a nearby lake and tributaries of the Chambal River, Amanbagh was once the site of the Maharajah of Alwar’s hunting lodge, and his favoured garden retreat. Evoking the cultural richness, the princely pleasures, and the dramatic romance of the Moghul era, Amanbagh pays homage to India’s golden age with palatial splendor in the finest of details.

Amanbagh rests within a walled enclosure and its fertile soil, watered by a nearby lake, supports an exotic garden of statuesque palms, aged eucalyptus and fruit trees, frangipani and lawns of manicured jade green – a dramatic contrast to the surrounding rugged terrain of the Aravalli Hills.

Styled after the grandiose architecture of the Moghul era, Amanbagh pays homage to Rajasthan’s golden age through its elegant, unique interpretation of a grand haveli, or nobleman’s palace. The use of local materials for the period details and lavish interiors incorporate floors of softly-hued pink marble or makrana, and domed cupolas and inner courtyards of pale smooth sandstone.

ACCOMODATION

Amanbagh provides four categories of accommodation. All categories of suites feature a large bathtub carved from Udaipur green marble and are fitted with Bose sound systems and a personal bar.

Courtyard Haveli suite
Eight Courtyard Haveli Suites are located on the ground level of two dwellings on either side of the swimming pool. The entrance to each Suite is via a courtyard with an outdoor dining area. Inside, a living area includes a large daybed, two armchairs and a writing desk. Beyond is a private courtyard. The adjoining bedroom features a domed ceiling high above a king-size bed and a bathroom filled with natural light.

Garden Haveli Suite
Also on the ground level are eight Garden Haveli Suites. Identical in design and furnishings to the Courtyard Haveli Suites, they are differentiated by a private terrace that overlooks a garden.

Terrace Haveli Suite
Eight Terrace Haveli Suites are located on the upper level of the two dwellings. Access to each is via a staircase that leads through tall wooden doors to a spacious terrace with an outdoor dining area and two chaise lounge chairs. Inside, a sitting area features a daybed, two armchairs and a writing desk. The bedroom area offers a king-size bed and large bathroom with a bathtub and separate dressing room.

Pool Pavilion
Sixteen Pool Pavilions are located around the perimeter of the resort, each with its own private swimming pool and spacious garden. Entry to each Pavilion is via a garden courtyard that leads to a foyer passageway. The foyer provides access to the shared living area and bedroom on one side, and to the bathroom on the other.

The living area features a king-size bed, writing desk, daybed and armchairs. The bathroom includes a spacious dressing area, twin walk-in wardrobes, twin vanities, separate shower and toilet. The double doors open from both sides onto a spacious garden courtyard with a covered dining and lounge area. The private swimming pool, measuring 3m by 9m, is cool throughout the summer months and heated during the winter months.

In the countryside surrounding Amanbagh there lies evidence of a lost empire whose historical ambition still echoes in the remains of grand architectural ruins. Excursions on a cultural trail within a 30km radius of Amanbagh include visits to the nearby Ajabgarh Fort and Temple which were built in 1635 and are connected by an underground passageway.

Nearby, the Baba Kapoor Shah Mosque was erected in the 17th century in memory of the great Sufi mystic, Baba Kapoor Shah. Bhangarh, built in the mid-1600s, is 15km from Amanbagh and is of great archaeological importance. It is a national heritage site comprising an entire city of bazaars, palaces, gardens, temples and bathing pools deserted overnight by inhabitants who feared a curse.
